This calculator estimates tax credits for two popular energy-efficient investments: electric vehicles (EVs) and solar panel installations. Both the federal government and many states/provinces offer incentives to encourage these clean energy choices.
Electric Vehicle (EV) Tax Credit
The federal EV tax credit provides a credit for the purchase of qualifying electric vehicles. The credit amount depends on battery capacity and income.
2026 Federal EV Tax Credit Details
- Maximum credit: $7,500 per vehicle
- Battery requirement: At least 7 kWh capacity
- Vehicle price cap: $55,000 for sedans, $80,000 for SUVs/trucks
Income Phase-Outs
- Married Filing Jointly: Phase out begins at $300,000, fully phased out at $350,000
- Single/Head of Household: Phase out begins at $150,000, fully phased out at $200,000
Solar Investment Tax Credit (ITC)
The federal solar ITC allows homeowners to claim a percentage of their solar panel installation costs as a tax credit.
2026 Solar ITC Details
- Credit percentage: 30% of installation costs
- No maximum limit: Credit is applied to the full cost
- Residential and commercial: Both qualify
Phase-Down Schedule
- 2026-2032: 30%
- 2033: 26%

State/Provincial Incentives
